The rate of part-time employed persons has decreased during the last year in the Valencian Community, reaching 17.3%. This is reflected in the latest report carried out by  Randstad  on the working hours of professionals in Spain.

This figure represents a decrease of 2.6 percentage points compared to the same period of the previous year, but an increase of 3.7 percentage points compared to 2007. If the historical series is analyzed,  Randstad  highlights that after registering the Email Data lowest figure in 2007 , 13.6%, the rate of professionals with this type of work grew to reach 19.7% in 2013. After this peak, the rate of part-time workers registered values close to 18% for two consecutive years, and then reached the highest figure in the historical series in 2016, 19.9%.

Along these lines, the Valencian Community is the region that registers the highest rate of part-time employees in our country. They are followed by Euskadi and Andalusia, which register 16.8% and 16.2%, respectively. Above the national average (14.8%), are Navarra (15.9%), Castilla y León (15.5%), Extremadura (15.3%) and La Rioja (15.1%). In the case of Aragón, the rate of employed people with this type of working day is at the same level as the national average.

In Spain as a whole, Randstad's analysis reveals that the rate of part-time employed people has fallen for three consecutive years, reaching 14.8% in 2017. This figure represents a decrease of half a percentage point compared to the same period. from the previous year, but an increase of 3.4 percentage points compared to 2007.

When the trend in Europe is analyzed together with the Spanish trend, an opposite behavior is detected since 2013. Although those employed part-time also increased consecutively for six years, since 2013 this group of workers has remained stable until 2017 , oscillating between 19.6% and 19.5%.

“ One of the challenges that all of us involved in the labor market face is to eliminate the negative perception that Spain has of part-time work, and even more so once it has been proven, with experience in other European countries, that the higher the rate of professionals with a part-time job, the lower the unemployment rate. There is a lack of knowledge of this hiring model in Spain, which can be a great ally in our objective of continuing to create new jobs ,” explains  Luis Pérez , director of institutional relations at  Randstad .

The study highlights that the younger the age, the higher the percentage of employed people who carry out their work with a part-time contract. Proof of this is that 38.5% of those under 25 years of age have a part-time job. This figure drops to 14.8% for employed people between 25 and 45 years old and to 12.1% for those over 45 years old.
